Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Flugstad
A native of Washington state, Dr. Nicholas Flugstad followed in his family’s footsteps when it came to pursuing medicine. His father and uncle are both physicians and influenced his decision to become a surgeon. Dr. Flugstad has dedicated his career to fine-tuning his plastic surgery skills and empowering women and men to achieve their aesthetic goals. He stays abreast of the latest techniques and best practices to provide safe, effective care spanning cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Flugstad began his journey by earning a degree in chemistry from Wheaton College in Norton, Illinois. He then went on to attend medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His experiences there cemented his decision to become a surgeon and specialize in plastic surgery. Upon completing several plastic surgery rotations at various institutions, he knew it was a field he was passionate about. Working hard, he scored in the 99th percentile on the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam and was the only member of his graduating class in 2008 to be accepted into a plastic surgery residency.
For the next six years, Dr. Flugstad was immersed in a rigorous integrated residency program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed comprehensive training across all facets of plastic surgery and began to hone his skills. As part of his training, he studied under world-renowned microsurgeons during a two-month clinical fellowship rotation in head and neck surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2011.
To further his skills and experience in aesthetic surgery, Dr. Flugstad completed an additional one-year aesthetic surgery fellowship after residency. He was accepted into a program at the Hunstad Kortesis Center for Plastic Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was then mentored by Dr. Joseph Hunstad, a leading specialist in the field, and had the opportunity to participate in several hundred aesthetic procedures. Dr. Flugstad then went on to earn his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Flugstad then entered private practice and earned his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the gold standard when it comes to safety and training in the field of plastic surgery. Dr. Flugstad also elected to take his aesthetic credentials to the highest level, and was accepted to membership in the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). ASAPS membership is one of the highest demonstrations of skill and experience in aesthetic surgery.
In addition to running a diverse and productive private practice in the suburbs of Dallas-Fort Worth, Dr. Flugstad is also involved in research and academia. He has conducted research in a wide array of areas, including breast augmentation, facelift and neck lift, peripheral nerve injury, lower extremity reconstruction, wound healing, breast implants, and body contouring. He published a landmark study on cosmetic breast augmentation in 2015 that demonstrated how using a Keller Funnel can reduce breast augmentation complications by upward of 50%. This study changed the way many plastic surgeons perform breast augmentations. Over the years, Dr. Flugstad’s work has been published in several prestigious medical journals and textbooks.
Dr. Flugstad leverages his diverse research and training to support patients in selecting procedures that effectively address their concerns and boost their confidence. Each procedure is performed with delicate precision and tailored to the patient’s individual needs and desires. He creates impactful changes while producing natural-looking, aesthetically pleasing results.
Outside of work, Dr. Flugstad enjoys traveling, hiking, water sports, and spending time with his wife and their four children.
